The specifications require a GCFI outlet in order to plug in the electric pump, but why wouldn't the homeowner want to hard-wire it permanently? A:It's truly up to the homeowner to either hard wire or use a cord. It can be tough for some homeowners to wire in behind a toilet. Thomas
